Ford F-150 Towing Capacity

Ford F-150 Towing Capacity

There's a reason why the Ford F-150 has been one of the best-selling trucks in the country for decades: it has a no-nonsense, do-anything, go-anywhere attitude and the capabilities to match. When you're looking to get out on the roads of Rising Sun, Elkton, or North East, Maryland, this is the truck that will get you wherever you need to go in style, whether it's on the highway or tearing up the trails off-road.

Part of a pickup truck's capability is how much it can tow—14,000 pounds to be exact. Ramsey Ford is pleased to offer you this breakdown of the Ford F-150 towing capacity to help with your research.

Ford F-150 Engine Lineup

Ford F-150 PerformanceThe first thing to understand is that towing capacity is going to depend on which of the seven engine choices you go with for your F-150. These include six V6 engines and a V8. Tucked inside are a turbodiesel and hybrid powertrain. The base V6 engine is 3.3-liters and gives you 290 horsepower. It's backed up with 265 lb-ft in torque. From there you can step up to a 2.7-liter turbocharged V6 that generates 325 horsepower and can put out 400 lb-ft.

You could also opt for the 5.0-liter V-8 engine. This one gives you 400 horsepower and can generate 440 lb-ft of torque. The final gas engine in the lineup is another turbocharged 3.5-liter V6, which gives you 400 horsepower and 500 lb-ft. The turbodiesel engine is a 3.0-liter V6. It has 250 horsepower and 440 lb-ft. The hybrid powertrain combines the 2.5-liter V6 engine with a battery and electric motor. It gives you 430 horsepower and manages to generate 570 lb-ft of torque.

Towing Options

Any time you hear about towing capacity, it's always when the truck is "properly equipped." In the case of the F-150, this refers to features you get throughout the trim levels, like sway control, wired trailer connections, integrated trailer brake control, and at the very top Limited trim level, the Trailer Tow package. This package gives you special trailer backup assistance.
