Ford F-150 MPG

Ramsey Ford F-150 MPG

One of the most important aspects of a vehicle is its miles per gallon (MPG) rating, as that’s a good way to measure how long you can stay on the road before you’ll have to refuel. While pickup trucks haven’t been known for their fuel efficiency over the years, the Ford F-150 bucks that trend in a variety of ways.

This article by Ramsey Ford will teach drivers in Rising Sun, Elkton, and North East, Maryland, all about the MPG ratings of the Ford F-150.

What Is MPG Like in the Ford F-150?

Ramsey Ford F-150 MPG

The beauty of driving a classic pickup truck, like the Ford F-150, is that there are varying MPG ratings. These are determined by the engine and the type of drive system it's equipped with.

For example, when equipped with the 3.3L V6 engine and a 4x2 drive system, the F-150 gets an EPA-estimated 20 city/24 highway/21 combined MPG. The same engine with a 4x4 drive system gets a little less, as it achieves an EPA-estimated 19 city/22 highway/20 combined MPG.

There are five other gas engines that are available in the Ford F-150, with different MPG ratings. They are:

  • 2.7L EcoBoost® V6: EPA-estimated 20 city/26 highway/22 combined MPG with 4x2 system; EPA-estimated 19 city/24 highway/21 combined MPG with 4x4 system
  • 5.0L V8: EPA-estimated 17 city/24 highway/20 combined MPG with 4x2 system; EPA-estimated 16 city/22 highway/19 combined MPG with 4x4 system
  • 3.5L EcoBoost® V6: EPA-estimated 18 city/24 highway/20 combined MPG with 4x2 system; EPA-estimated 18 city/23 highway/20 combined MPG with 4x4 system
  • 3.0L Power Stroke V6: EPA-estimated 20 city/27 highway/23 combined MPG with 4x4 system
  • High-Output 3.5L EcoBoost® V6: Up to an EPA-estimated 16 city/20 highway/18 combined MPG with 4x4 system

Ford F-150 Hybrid MPG

Over the last decade, hybrid vehicles have upped the ante in terms of miles per gallon ratings. If you opt for the hybrid version of the F-150, you’ll be treated to a powerful 3.5L PowerBoost™ Full Hybrid V6 engine that can achieve an EPA-estimated 25 city/26 highway/25 combined MPG with a 4x2 drive system and an EPA-estimated 24 city/24 highway/24 combined MPG with a 4x4 system.

Regardless of the engine and the drive system you choose, each comes with Auto Start-Stop Technology, which is designed to shut off the engine when the truck is idling in order to save fuel.

What Fuel-Saving Tips Can I Utilize?

Ramsey Ford F-150 MPG

Even with the fuel-saving technology the Ford F-150 provides, there are still a number of ways you can maximize your fuel use:

  • Limit idling: Auto Start-Stop Technology will help save fuel. However, if that feature is turned off, you’ll want to limit idling as much as possible, especially if you have the air conditioning or the heat turned on.
  • Drive at safe speeds: Usually driving the speed limit or just under it will help you save fuel, as it puts less stress on the engine.
  • Drive with the windows up on major roadways: It may be tempting to roll down the windows on a nice day to feel the crisp breeze. However, doing this on a major roadway or a stretch of road with a high speed limit can negatively impact fuel usage. The wind can create drag, which forces the engine to work harder. Keep the windows up and if you need to cool down, turn on the air conditioning.
  • Keep up with routine maintenance: Regular services, such as oil changes and tire rotations, will go a long way toward keeping the MPG ratings at optimal levels.
