Ford Escape vs Mazda CX-5: Fuel Economy

Ford Escape SilverHaving good fuel economy is a benefit for any vehicle, but especially so when it comes to those looking to take on all kinds of roads. From the busy city streets to high-speed highway lanes, a high fuel economy takes the pressure off.

Starting with the Ford Escape, it can achieve an EPA-estimated 28 city and 34 highway MPG with the standard 1.5-liter EcoBoost® I-3 engine. Now, it’s important to consider that the Escape comes with four engine options that significantly increase its fuel economy.

For example, choosing the available 2.5-liter I-4 hybrid engine option boosts the fuel economy to an EPA-estimated 44 city and 37 highway MPG. It should be noted that this is with the standard front-wheel drive configuration.

Meanwhile, the Mazda CX-5 only has two engine options, including the standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine. It achieves an EPA-estimated 25 city and 31 highway MPG.

Ford Escape vs Mazda CX-5: Safety Features

No matter the road you take, you’ll always want to drive with confidence that your vehicle has been designed with your safety in mind.

The Escape features the standard Personal Safety System™ with dual-stage driver and front-passenger airbags. Combined with additional airbag features, like driver knee airbags, front seat-mounted side-impact airbags, and the Safety Canopy® System.

The CX-5 overlaps with the Escape in some respects but also has a great feature of its own: Advanced Smart City Brake Support with Pedestrian Detection. With this, your CX-5 can automatically brake when encountering either a vehicle or a pedestrian. It is a good feature for those drivers who frequent the city.

Both vehicles offer good safety technologies, which puts them in close competition. While the Escape edges the CX-5, these vehicles will have you feeling safe and secure.

Ford Escape vs Mazda CX-5: Comfort & Convenience

Ford Escape InteriorWhen taking your vehicle on the road, it’s good to have amenities that make your driving experience a little easier and a little more comfortable. In this section, we’ll look at what each vehicle has to offer.

The Escape offers an expansive number of features when it comes to comfort and convenience. Some examples include standard Ice Blue® Instrument Panel Cluster Lighting, a message center, trip computer, a steering wheel with cruise and audio controls, manual tilt and telescoping steering column, and dual USB ports for charging devices.

Meanwhile, the CX-5 offers such standard features as a remote fuel-door release, dual covered visor vanity mirrors, a similar tilt and telescopic steering column, and perhaps the only advantage is a remote keyless entry system. However, that system is an available option on the Ford Escape.
