Ford Escape Dashboard Light Guide

2021 Ford Escape Blue Desert

So, you now own a Ford Escape. Congratulations! As you get acquainted with your new baby, we know you have a lot of questions about how to communicate with your Escape; you don’t understand the jargon of dashboard lights. Yet.

That’s why, at Ramsey Ford, we’ve put together this Ford Escape dashboard guide so you can get acquainted with all the lights on your dashboard and the features that go with them.

You can get all the specs from your owner’s manual, but this brief list covers the highlights. Drive confidently around Rising Sun, Elkton, and North East, Maryland, by learning more about your Ford Escape.

Let’s get started!

Stability Control Indicator

Stability control is a safety system that only powers on when your vehicle detects hazardous driving conditions. Your engine will run on a lower power mode as your Escape stabilizes itself on icy and slippery roads to help keep your driving under control.

The Ford Escape’s dashboard light for stability control—the image of a car driving on a slippery road—will flash every time you turn on the car.

If the dashboard light remains solid, you should have the feature looked over because this means it’s malfunctioning.

When it flashes while in the middle of your commute, it has activated because it has detected hazardous conditions and is working to keep you steady.

Low Beam and Low Beam Warning

After activating your low beams your dashboard will display two ovals surrounded by lines (illustrating light). When your low beams need maintenance, you’ll see a little sun with an exclamation point in the middle. In this event, have your Ford Escape serviced as soon as possible.

Anti-Lock Braking System

Ford Escape Dashboard Light GuideRetain steering control and keep your brakes from locking during emergency stops by taking advantage of the anti-lock braking system. A bracketed circle with the letters “ABS” in the center will light up momentarily whenever you turn on the ignition.

If this symbol illuminates on the Ford Escape dashboard while the SUV is in motion, the system is malfunctioning. Your normal brakes will still function as they should, just without the extra security offered by the anti-lock system. Head over to your car mechanic to have this feature serviced.

Auto Hold: Ford Escape Dashboard

When caught in traffic on an incline, auto hold keeps your vehicle steady. It keeps you from sliding while you wait for the light to change all without you needing to hold down the brake pedal.

When you come to a stop, check to make sure your auto hold indicator light is illuminated. This will be an upheld hand surrounding by a semi-circle and parentheses. If there is a slash through the symbol, the auto-hold is activated, but it can’t hold your vehicle in place in the present conditions.

Remember, this system can’t be used alongside park assist, when in neutral mode, with the driver door open, if your seatbelt isn’t fastened, or if you change to the reverse gear before activation.

Enjoy the Drive!

Now that we’ve gone through a Ford Escape dashboard light guide, you know more about how to operate and care for your new baby. Congratulations! If a light starts flashing on your dashboard while you drive through Rising Sun, Elkton, or North East, MD, you know what to do.
