Edge vs Equinox: Engine Lineup
Ford is devoted to injecting a sense of fun and driver engagement into the Ford Edge. The result is an engine lineup with impressive power outputs. The base engine of the Edge is a 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder boasting 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque. But that’s not all—the Edge really ratchets up the athleticism with the available 2.7L twin-turbocharged V6. This V6 pumps out 335 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque.
In contrast, the Chevy Equinox only comes with a single available motor. The Chevy motor is a 1.5L turbo 4-cylinder making 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque.
The Equinox uses a 6-speed automatic transmission, while the Edge utilizes an 8-speed automatic for the 4-cylinder, and a 7-speed for the V6.
Edge vs Equinox: Performance Features
In addition to having a more impressive engine lineup, the Ford Edge offers trim levels which further improve on-road performance. The most extreme is the Ford Edge ST, which comes complete with the ST Performance Brake package. In addition to eye-catching 21-inch premium gloss Black-painted aluminum wheels, the ST Performance Brake Package includes:
- Front and rear vented disc brakes
- Unique front rotors
- Colorado Red-painted brake calipers
- Brushless radiator cooling fan
- Performance brake pads
The Chevrolet Equinox doesn’t have a trim that devotes itself so completely to driver engagement.
Edge vs Equinox: Cargo Room
Impressive performance makes an SUV more engaging to drive, but the model also has to be of practical use. Two-row SUVs such as the Ford Edge and Chevy Equinox are often tasked with hauling cargo. Both do a solid job, yet the Ford Edge offers a more spacious cargo area.
The cargo room behind the second row of the Edge measures 39.2 cubic feet. And if you fold that row flat, the maximum cargo volume reaches 73.4 cubic feet.
The Equinox is a bit tighter, whether you keep the second-row standing for 29.9 cubic feet of cargo room, or fold the second-row flat for 63.9 cubic feet of maximum cargo room.
Ford Edge Is the Winner
The performance chops of the Ford Edge, along with its roomy interior space, give it an advantage over competitors such as the Chevrolet Equinox.
