Ford Edge Dashboard Light Guide

2021 Ford Edge dashboard light guide

It’s always good to understand what makes your car tick or at least the basics of how to maintain it. Your vehicle’s dashboard lights work to give you the answers to your car’s functions, both when the car is running like a dream and when it might need some maintenance.

To help you learn more about your Ford vehicle, Ramsey Ford has compiled a helpful Ford Edge dashboard guide. Drive with confidence around Rising Sun, Elkton, and North East, Maryland, once you know more about your Ford Edge and its dashboard.

Your user manual will cover the whole breadth of the dashboard but keep reading this guide to see a breakdown of a few common lights you’ll see on your Ford Edge dashboard. Let’s go!

Malfunction Indicator Lamp

2021 Ford Edge Rising Sun, MDThis light functions in three different ways. Firstly, if you leave the ignition on and the engine off, an engine silhouette will illuminate; the Ford Edge dashboard light is alerting you that you’re using the battery. This is normal.

If that engine silhouette stays solid while your engine is running, your Edge’s emission control system needs to get looked over. If the icon begins flashing, the emission control system needs immediate attention; you’ll need to get the system checked ASAP.

When you’re sitting on an incline and you ease off the brakes to turn on the gas, Hill Start Assist helps keep you from rolling downhill. You know the feature is on and running when a little car crawling uphill lights up on the dashboard.

If a message displays saying that “Hill Start Assist is not available,” the feature is currently malfunctioning and will need servicing to repair. Drive with extra caution in the interim.

Cruise Control and Adaptive Cruise Control: Ford Edge Dashboard

2021 Ford Edge adaptive cruise controlWhen putting in long hours on the highway, cruise control makes maintaining your speed a breeze.

Cruise control needs to be turned on and off manually via a button on the steering wheel. When activated and functioning, a small gauge illuminates on the Ford Edge dashboard with the dial set to about 45 degrees.

The Ford Edge’s Adaptive Cruise Control works for you to keep a safe distance between your vehicle and others on the highway. When you activate the system (again, from the driver’s wheel) a similar-looking gauge lights up, with a car in the upper left.

If either icon is lighting up unprompted, or not lighting up when the feature is enabled, make sure to have your Edge looked over.

Auto High-Beam Headlamps

2021 Ford Edge auto high-beam headlightsYour Ford Edge comes with Auto High-Beam Headlamps. When you activate them, you’ll see a series of lines next to a cone-like headlamp shape, with an “A” in the center, illustrating light emanating from a headlamp. Using sensors, your Edge detects your environment and turns on the high beams when needed and off when other lights (such oncoming traffic) are detected.

If you don’t notice that light turning on, or your automatic high beams are less than automatic, be sure to have a servicer look your Edge over.
